Last updated: July 5, 2026
AfterOmegle needs access to your camera and microphone to start random video chat. Camera and microphone permissions are controlled by your browser and device, not directly by AfterOmegle. This page explains how to allow access, fix common permission issues, choose the right device, and improve your video chat experience.
Quick Checklist
If your camera or microphone is not working, try these first:
- refresh the AfterOmegle page
- allow camera and microphone permissions when your browser asks
- check the lock icon near the browser address bar
- close other apps using your camera or microphone
- choose the correct camera or microphone in browser settings
- update your browser
- restart your browser
- try a different browser
- restart your device if the issue continues
For the best experience, use an updated version of Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox.
Why AfterOmegle Requests Camera and Microphone Access
AfterOmegle is a browser-based random video chat platform. To connect you with another user through live video and audio, your browser needs permission to use your camera and microphone. Video is sent directly between users through WebRTC peer-to-peer connections, so no video passes through AfterOmegle servers.
You can block, allow, or revoke these permissions at any time through your browser or device settings. If camera or microphone access is blocked, video chat may not start or the other person may not be able to see or hear you.
How to Allow Camera and Microphone Access
When you start a video chat, your browser may show a permission prompt asking whether AfterOmegle can use your camera and microphone. Choose Allow to continue.
If you accidentally chose Block, you can usually fix it by:
- Clicking the lock icon near the address bar.
- Opening site settings or permissions.
- Setting camera permission to Allow.
- Setting microphone permission to Allow.
- Refreshing the page.
The exact steps vary depending on your browser and device.

Mobile Devices
If you are using AfterOmegle on a phone or tablet, camera and microphone access may be controlled by both your browser and your device settings. Check:
- browser camera permission
- browser microphone permission
- device privacy settings
- whether another app is already using the camera
- whether low-power mode is affecting performance
- whether your browser is updated
- whether your internet connection is stable
Keep the AfterOmegle tab active while using video chat for best results.
Choose the Correct Camera or Microphone
If your device has multiple cameras or microphones, the wrong one may be selected. This can happen if you use:
- an external webcam
- Bluetooth earbuds
- wired headphones
- an external microphone
- virtual camera software
- screen recording tools
Check your browser or device settings and select the correct camera and microphone. If the wrong device is selected, refresh the page after changing settings.
Camera Is Black or Blank
If your camera preview is black or blank, try:
- make sure the camera lens is not covered
- check if another app is using the camera
- close apps like Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, Teams, or other video chat websites
- switch camera source if available
- refresh the page
- restart your browser
- update your browser
- restart your device
If your camera works in other apps but not on AfterOmegle, the issue is usually browser permission, browser compatibility, or an extension blocking camera access.
Microphone Is Not Working
If the other person cannot hear you, try:
- make sure microphone permission is allowed
- check whether your microphone is muted
- choose the correct microphone in settings
- disconnect and reconnect external headphones or microphones
- close other apps using the microphone
- check device sound settings
- refresh the page
- restart your browser
- try another browser
If you are using Bluetooth earbuds, make sure they are connected and selected as the active microphone.
Browser Extensions May Block Access
Some browser extensions can interfere with camera, microphone, scripts, or real-time video chat. Extensions that may cause issues include:
- ad blockers
- script blockers
- privacy blockers
- VPN extensions
- camera or microphone control extensions
- security extensions that block WebRTC
- screen recording or virtual camera extensions
Try disabling extensions for AfterOmegle or opening the site in a browser window where extensions are off.
VPN, Proxy, or Network Restrictions
Even if your camera and microphone work, video chat may fail if your network blocks real-time communication. This can happen on:
- school Wi-Fi
- office Wi-Fi
- public Wi-Fi
- hotel Wi-Fi
- VPNs
- proxy servers
- firewalls that block WebRTC traffic
Try turning off your VPN or proxy temporarily, switching to another network, or using mobile data.
Safety Before Turning On Camera
Before starting a chat, check your camera background. Avoid showing:
- home address or street name
- documents or ID cards
- computer screens with personal data
- private photos
- school or workplace details
- financial information
- anything that can identify your location
Do not share phone numbers, OTPs, passwords, payment details, social media accounts, private photos, or your exact location with strangers during a chat. If a conversation feels uncomfortable, use skip or end chat immediately.
